OriginCut guide / 01
Make your first video
Prepare a few clips, create a first cut through conversation, then review and refine it.
01Install and finish first-run preparation
- Download the macOS or Windows installer for your device and open OriginCut.
- On first launch, OriginCut prepares the required local AI models. Downloading is followed by verification and installation; continue when Next becomes available.
- If interrupted, reopen the app or use Retry. Downloaded chunks that have already passed verification can be reused.
02Set up one working assistant
Choose an assistant during onboarding or in the Agents area of Settings. Use an existing Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode CLI, or WorkBuddy installation, or the managed Codex component offered by OriginCut.
Local media models understand footage; the Agent reasons about and executes your requests. Downloading the models does not complete Agent setup. See Set up an AI assistant for each connection path.
03Open a folder of footage
- Create a dedicated folder containing the videos, images, and audio for this project.
- Select that project folder in OriginCut and allow media discovery and preparation to finish.
- Start with a few clips and specify the intended audience, duration, and aspect ratio so the first cut is easy to review.
04Describe your first cut
Ask for a result directly, or ask the Agent to inspect your footage and suggest directions first. Mention what must stay and which changes you do not want.
Try askingMake an approximately 20-second landscape coffee film, moving from beans through preparation to the finished cup. Keep the rhythm simple and add a few animated titles. Inspect the footage and suggest a plan before arranging it.
05Watch once, then change one thing
- Play the timeline and review shot order, readable text, and sound.
- Reference the clip or range you want to adjust and describe a specific change.
- When satisfied, open Export, choose quality and a destination, then play the finished file to check it.
Try askingHold the final cup shot for one extra second and let the title disappear later. Keep the earlier shots unchanged.
